- Note: MI.BAT should only be used by members who have been directed to use it by an America Online Technical
- Support Representative, after experiencing difficulties using the normal SETUP program.

- 1. Insert the diskette you received from America Online into the disk drive (A: or B:).
- 2. Double-click on the File Manager icon in the Main Program Group.
- 3. Click on the drive icon for your hard drive.
- 4. Look at the bottom of the File Manager window for information on how much available space
- you have on your hard drive.
- 5. Do not proceed unless you have at least 5 megabytes free on your hard drive.
- 6. Close the File Manager by double-clicking on the small button in the upper left corner of the window.
- 7. Select Run... from the File menu in the Windows Program Manager.
- 8. Type A:\MI C: in the Command Line field (or B:\MI C: if the diskette is in your B: drive).
- 9. Click on OK. The Manual Install program will install the America Online software files in a new
- C:\AOL20M (or C:\AOL20) directory.

- If there is already an America Online Program Group in the Program Manager, skip to Step 15.

- 10. Select New from the File menu in the Windows Program Manager. The New Program Object window will open.
- 11. Click on Program Group. The Program Group Properties window will open.
- 12. Type America Online in the Description field.
- 13. Click on OK. An empty America Online Program Group will open.
- 14. Skip to Step 16.
- 15. Click once on the America Online Program Group in the Windows Program Manager to highlight it.
- 16. Select New from the File menu in the Windows Program Manager. The New Program Object window will open.
- 17. Click on Program Item if it is not already selected.
- 18. Click on OK. The Program Item Properties window will open.
- 19. Type America Online Version 2.0 in the Description field.
- 20. Click on the Command Line field.
- 21. Click on Browse. The Browse window will open.
- 22. Double-click on the C:\ folder in the Directories scroll box.
- 23. Double-click on the AOL20M folder in the Directories scroll box. If there is no AOL20M folder listed,
- double-click on the AOL20 folder.
- 24. Click on the WAOL.EXE file in the File Name scroll box.
- 25. Click on OK.
- 26. Double-click on the America Online Program Group if it is not already open.
- 27. Double-click on the new America Online icon.
- 28. Click on No on the Welcome to America Online window.
- 29. Respond with the proper information about your computer setup in the two Setup America Online windows
- that are presented.
- 30. Click on Select Modem in the second Setup America Online window. The Modem Selection and Customization
- window will open.
- 31. Select your modem from the list in the Choose Modem box. If your modem is not listed, select Generic
- (Hayes Compatible). You can find additional information on how to configure your setup by clicking on Help
- on the menubar, and selecting Setup from the Contents.
- 32. Click on OK in each window. The software will initialize the modem, and connect you to America Online.
- 33. Sign on to America Online with release 2.0 for Windows.
